Gladie (Cayetana) announce debut album & tour, share song

Cayetana is no more, but singer Augusta Koch has stayed busy with other projects, including Sheena Anika & Augusta and Gladie. Gladie — a collaborative project with Matt Schimelfenig (Three Man Cannon) — released their debut EP Everyone Is Talking But You back in 2018, and now the band — who are now rounded out by bassist Ian Farmer (Modern Baseball) and drummer Pat Conaboy (The Spirit of the Beehive) — are set to release their debut album, Safe Sins, on February 28 via Lame-O Records (pre-order).

The first single is “A Pace Far Different,” which, like Gladie’s EP, is more atmospheric than Cayetana, but finds Augusta’s voice in perhaps even more powerful form. She says, “This song is about feeling trapped by your own limitations and trying desperately to escape them. We tried to capture that sensation with the erratic production of the song, in that it focuses mainly around repetitive loops that are meant to mirror the feeling of spiraling.” Listen below.

Gladie also announced a tour, beginning with a Brooklyn show at Rough Trade on March 5 (tickets), and ending in their hometown of Philly at Boot & Saddle in April.

Gladie will also be at Boot & Saddle much sooner for the Lame-O residency happening there this month with Petal, Cherry, and Strangepride on Thursday (1/9); The Menzingers, Gladie, and Sun Organ on 1/16; Cave People, Slaughter Beach Dog, and Ilahlia on 1/23; and Kite Party, Tigers Jaw (acoustic), and Queen Jesus on 1/30. More info and tickets (if still available) here.
