Glassjaw debuting new songs on tour (video + pics from T5 with The Used)

Glassjaw have been talking about the long-awaited followup to their 2002 sophomore album Worship and Tribute for a while now. The last concrete update we got was when they released the new single “New White Extremity” in 2015 and said it would appear on the album, but they’ve mostly been silent about it since. They’re on tour now opening for The Used and also doing some headlining shows, and they’ve been using the opportunity to debut even more new songs. Among the new songs are “My Conscious Weighs A Ton,” “Dead Silent Heaven Sent,” and one that we haven’t got the name of that they debuted at their headlining show in Clifton Park, NY on Monday (11/6). The PRP posted a fan-shot video of that song, which is on the doomier and more experimental side. You can watch it below (new song comes in at the 11:20 mark).

I caught them at NYC’s Terminal 5 last night (11/8), opening for The Used, where they definitely played “My Conscious Weighs A Ton” (and possibly other new stuff too). It was also my first time seeing them with their new rhythm section of bassist Travis Sykes and drummer Chad Hasty (both formerly of the Equal Vision-signed metalcore band Glass Cloud), and both the new songs and the new lineup ripped as hard as Glassjaw ever do. In fact, they were maybe a little tighter than the last time I saw them — Daryl Palumbo was in especially fine form last night. The new drummer and bassist have chops for days, and they had no trouble pulling off the complex musicianship of Glassjaw’s classics. And the new material sounds great and works perfectly with the older songs. With Glassjaw at the time of their game, it feels like this new album could be worth the wait. Let’s hope it comes out soon.

Pictures of the Terminal 5 show with The Used are in the gallery above and video of that new song from Clifton Park is below. Glassjaw’s tour includes another tristate area show with The Used on Sunday (11/12) at Starland Ballroom (tickets). Updated dates are listed below.

UPDATE: Video also surfaced of “My Conscious Weighs A Ton” and “Dead Silent Heaven sent” from the Cleveland show. Watch below at 49:15 and 1:12:23, respectively.
