Glen Hansard played 3 NYC shows, covered The Cranberries (pics, video)

Glen Hansard released his new album Between Two Shores this past Friday and celebrated it with three NYC shows: Town Hall on Friday (1/19), Brooklyn Steel on Sunday (1/21), and the very intimate Rough Trade on Monday (1/22). At the Town Hall show, Glen opened with “Limerick Town” and took it into a partial cover of The Cranberries’ “Linger,” in honor of Dolores O’Riordan, who passed away a few days earlier. He also brought out a few guests at Town Hall: Iarla Ó Lionáird of The Gloaming, Danny Clinch, August Wells, and Breandann O’Beaglaoich.

August Wells also opened the Brooklyn Steel show and joined him on stage, as did Breandann O’Beaglaoich and Irish singer David Keenan, who was visiting the US for the first time and played two songs solo. He did “Limerick Town”/”Linger” again at Brooklyn Steel, but later in the set. Both shows also included renditions of Woody Guthrie’s “Vigilante Man” with new verses about Donald Trump worked in.

Pictures are in the gallery above. They’re primarily from Brooklyn Steel but there’s a few shots from Town Hall and Rough Trade too. Setlists from Town Hall and BK Steel, and a video of the “Linger” cover, are below.

Iarla Ó Lionáird performs in NYC again on February 3 at Symphony Space. He’s singing in a performance of Kate Moore’s Bushranger Psychodrama and also playing a solo set (tickets).

Danny Clinch performs in NYC with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band on January 27 at McKittrick Hotel (tickets).
