photos by Amanda Hatfield

UPDATE: SUNDAY is now CANCELLED due to the rain. Details below.

UPDATE: Courtney Barnett will play a free show at Rough Trade instead.

UPDATE: Prophets of Rage will play a free show at Warsaw instead. (update: they played!)

UPDATE: Two Door Cinema Club will take place at Music Hall of Williamsburg.

UPDATE: Kanye West announced a 2 AM show at Webster Hall but chaos outside the venue ensued and the show didn’t happen.

Due to the unfortunate weather report, Governors Ball posted the following warning Saturday night:

At Gov Ball, our top priority is your well-being and the well-being of talent and staff. If weather conditions are deemed unsafe for the festival, Sunday’s show will be delayed or cancelled. We constantly monitor weather conditions, and we work closely with the appropriate City agencies, including NYC Parks, NYPD, and NYC Office of Emergency Management to determine the best and safest course of action.

Sadly this was followed by a delayed opening announcement this morning:

Doors for today’s show have been delayed due to weather. An update on the status of the show will be posted here no later than 12:30pm EST today. Until we have posted an update, please do not come to Randall’s Island Park for the festival.

Stay tuned, but we’re hearing that some of today’s sets are already being canceled as we speak. Hopefully another announcement is coming soon. Hopefully Prophets of Rage still get to play!

UPDATE: It’s cancelled. They write:

Sunday, June 5th of Gov Ball 2016 has officially been cancelled, due to severe weather and a high likelihood of lightning in the area. The safety of fans, artists and crew always comes first.

All customers who purchased a Sunday ticket and Sunday transportation ticket through the Gov Ball ticketing page will receive a refund (including fees and shipping, if applicable) directly to the account used to purchase. All customers who purchased a 3-Day Pass and 3-Day Transportation pass directly through the Gov Ball Ticketing page will receive a partial/pro-rated refund (including fees and shipping, if applicable) directly to the account used to purchase.

At this time we expect all refunds to be processed within 21 days. All partial refunds will be based on the ticket price at which the ticket was purchased.

If the original card used for purchase has expired or been updated, the refund should still be processed through the account used to purchase. No additional action is needed by the original purchaser. If your credit card used for purchase has been canceled or is now expired, the bank or credit card company will normally reroute the credit amount issued to the current account or card for use. Please do not send any credit card or account information via email to [email protected]

Only primary ticket purchasers will receive a refund. We apologize for any inconvenience, but if you did not purchase your ticket directly through the official Gov Ball website, we can not handle refund requests. Please contact the person / party you purchased your ticket through if you did not purchase your ticket directly through the official Gov Ball Ticketing site.

This process takes time and all parties involved are working incredibly hard to expedite the process to ensure everyone that is entitled to a refund receives it as quickly as possible.

Stay tuned for more information, and please bear with us. We are just as devastated as you.

On Saturday, as you can see in the Saturday photo gallery above, there was rain too, but no sets were affected. It started raining pretty steadily right after Haim’s 3rd song and continued throughout their whole set. (Haim covered “I Would Die 4 U” as their 3rd song, too). It didn’t stop Haim fans from feeling it though, and the band mentioned the last time they played this festival in 2013 it rained also and that was one of their favorite sets ever. The rain let up briefly before Purity Ring, then started again, then let up right in time for M83 to go on. It got MUDDY.
