Grammys 2018 winners (War on Drugs, The National, LCD Soundsystem, Kendrick Lamar, Jason Isbell, more)

The 2018 Grammy Awards ceremony is tonight at NYC’s Madison Square Garden and airing live on CBS with host James Corden starting at 7:30. This year, celebrities are wearing white roses to show solidarity with the #MeToo movement (similar to how celebs wore black at the Golden Globes for the same reason). Like every year, several winners get announced online during the pre-show and red carpet livestream. So far, winners include LCD Soundsystem‘s “Tonite,” which won Best Dance Recording, beating out Gorillaz, Bonobo, Odesza, and CamelPhat & Elderbrook. It’s LCD’s first-ever Grammy win.

LCD were also nominated for Best Alternative Album, but lost to The National, who also beat out Arcade Fire, Gorillaz, and Father John Misty. It’s The National’s first Grammy win.

The War On Drugs won Best Rock Album, beating out Queens of the Stone Age, Metallica, Mastodon, and Nothing More. It’s both their first Grammy nomination and their first win. Meanwhile, Foo Fighters took Best Rock Song, beating Metallica and others.

Kendrick Lamar won Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song (meaning Cardi B’s “Bodak Yellow” lost both awards that it was nominated for), as well as Best Music Video for “HUMBLE.,” Best Rap/Sung Performance for “LOYALTY.” (featuring Rihanna, and Best Rap Album for DAMN. (beating Jay-Z, Rapsody, Migos, and Tyler the Creator). He’s also up for a bunch of other awards including Album of the Year, and he’s performing at the ceremony (as is his labelmate SZA).

Kendrick yelled “Jay for president!” in his acceptance speech for Best Rap Album, and Dave Chappelle shouted out A Tribe Called Quest (who were notably snubbed) during his speech introducing the award. Watch both speeches HERE.

Kendrick, Jay-Z, Lorde, and Childish Gambino lost Album of the Year to Bruno Mars. Kendrick, Jay-Z and others also lost Record of the Year to Bruno Mars. Jay-Z and others lost Song of the Year to Bruno Mars too.

Dave Chappelle won Best Comedy Album, beating Jim Gaffian, Jerry Seinfeld, Sarah Silverman, and Kevin Hart. Trevor Noah introduced the award (and took a little shot at Trump during his speech).

The Weeknd won Best Urban Contemporary Album, beating SZA, Childish Gambino, Khalid, and 6LACK.

SZA unfortunately lost all five awards that she was nominated for. In addition to Best Urban Contemporary Album, she lost Best R&B Song and Best R&B Performance to Bruno Mars, Best Rap/Sung Performance to Kendrick, and Best New Artist to Alessia Cara.

Jay-Z lost all eight awards that he was nominated for.

Mastodon won Best Metal Performance, over Code Orange, Meshuggah, Body Count, and August Burns Red.

Leonard Cohen won his first Grammy, a posthumous award for Best Rock Performance for “You Want it Darker.” Previously, an album he was featured on, Herbie Hancock’s River: The Joni Letters won album of the year in 2007, and Cohen was also honored with a Lifetime Achievement award in 2010.

Aimee Mann took home Best Folk Album, Jason Isbell won Best Americana Album and Best American Roots Song, Chris Stapleton won Best Country Album and Best Country Song and Best Country Solo Performance, Alabama Shakes won best American Roots Performance, Kraftwerk won Best Dance/Electronic Album, The Rolling Stones won Best Traditional Blues Album, Portugal. The Man won Best Pop Duo/Group Performance (their first time being nominated and first win), Taj Mahal & Keb’ Mo’ won Best Contemporary Blues Album, Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley won Best Reggae Album, and Dr. Dre & Jimmy Iovine’s The Defiant Ones won Best Music Film.

Ed Sheeran took home Best Pop Vocal Album, beating out Lana Del Rey, Kesha, Lady Gaga, Coldplay, and Imagine Dragons; and Best Pop Solo Performance, beating Kelly Clarkson, Kesha, Lady Gaga, and P!nk.
