Grand Resort @ Sound Bites Series, 8/4/2013
The Sound Bites Series (which I curate) kicked off Sunday (8/4) at South Street Seaport with Brooklyn indie poppers Grand Resort. The two previous years have been at the Fulton Stall Market, but that is on an August hiatus so Sound Bites is now happening around the corner on the Front/Row stage at Fulton and Front streets. It’s right next to Smorgasbar if you’ve been down there this summer. The cobblestone in front of the stage is covered in astroturf which made for a relaxing way to check out the show. It was a lovely day if I do say so myself and pictures from that show are in this post.
Grand Resort’s new EP is out this week and if you didn’t make it down yesterday, they’ll have their release show on Friday (8/9) at Cake Shop with Slonk Donkerson and Dead Young Friends. After that, they’ll start their Pianos residency, playing the last three Thursdays in August. They’re also on the bill for the Out in the Streets festival at Vander-Ende Onderdonk House later this month.
The Sound Bites Series continues every Sunday in August. This week (8/11) is with Philadelphia’s Literature. They were one of my favorite band’s at this year’s NYC Popfest and am really excited to have them play. With the move to the Front/Row stage, the start time has shifted one hour later: I DJ at 3 PM and the band plays at 4 PM. Still free.
