Grateful Dead releasing first-ever non-US show on vinyl; Phil Lesh adds NY shows

Phil Lesh is on a roll this year. The Grateful Dead member has already played seven NYC-area shows in 2017 — including the recent Brooklyn Bowl show where Eric Krasno joined Phil and the Terrapin Family band to recreate the Dead’s 6/7/77 Winterland set (pics, review) — and he just added two more. Phil Lesh & Friends will return to the Capitol Theatre on May 26 and 27. Band lineups for those shows are still TBA. Tickets for night 1 and night 2 go on sale Friday (3/24) at noon.

Meanwhile, the Grateful Dead will release a recording of the first-ever non-US show they played for Record Store Day 2017 (April 22). It was their 7/29/66 at the P.N.E. Garden Auditorium in Vancouver. Here are the release details:

P.N.E. Garden Auditorium, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada 7/29/66 marks Grateful Dead’s debut performance outside of the United States. Their complete July 29, 1966 performance is being released in a limited edition, 2-LP, 180 gram vinyl-set, with four bonus tracks from the ensuing 7/30 performance at the same venue. Original cover art by Canadian poster artist Bob Masse, the iconic ’60s poster artist who has designed original works for artists such as Jefferson Airplane, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, David Bowie, Fleetwood Mac, Steve MillerBand, No Doubt, Fiona Apple & Smashing Pumpkins to name a few. The show was mastered from the original audio recordings by GRAMMY-winning sound engineer Jeffrey Norman at Mockingbird Mastering in Petaluma, CA. This audio was first made available in January, 2016 as the bonus disc in the 2-CD The Grateful Dead (50th Anniversary Deluxe Edition) as it features most of the tracks that would make their way on to the first official Grateful Dead album. This is the only stand-alone release for this content.
