Green Day share "Still Breathing"

After releasing the nostalgic-sounding “Bang Bang” and then the title track off Revolution Radio, Green Day are now back with a third new song, “Still Breathing.” It’s a bit slower than the other two, more of an anthemic alternative rock song than the snotty pop punk they helped bring to prominence in the ’90s. Here’s what Billie Joe Armstrong tells Rolling Stone about this one in a new track-by-track breakdown of the new album:

“That was a very heavy song,” says Armstrong. “Sometimes I run away from being too heavy. But sometimes it just comes out that way.” The chorus, “I’m still breathing on my own” alludes to the fact that “at some point, we’re all going to have to be on life support,” says Armstrong. “As time goes on, your thoughts get darker.”
