Kill Surf City

Grey Gordon touring; his shoegaze project Kill Surf City has a new video

Grey Gordon is on No Sleep Records as a Death Cab-ish acoustic emo artist, but like a lot of modern emo artists, he likes shoegaze too, and a couple years ago he began making shoegaze under the moniker Kill Surf City (named after the Jesus and Mary Chain song). The latest KSF album, Ever Notice How Everything’s Stupid, came out this past June via Blacktop Records, and we’re premiering the video for “Knuckle Dragger” from that album, which Grey tells us “is about the violent fantasies induced by interacting with everyday people. As the years wear on, it becomes apparent that the problem is probably just as much me as it is them, but that’s not what this song is about. This song is about executing people who talk to you even when you have headphones in.”

Grey really nails the pillowy atmosphere and wall-of-sound guitars of the genre, and he does it without losing the punk energy he was brought up on or the more lyric-centric style he built his career off of. If you dig stuff like Hyperview-era Title Fight or Nothing, you’ll probably dig this too. Watch the new video and stream the album below.

Grey is also touring under his own name with Skylar Sarkis of Taking Meds, including a Brooklyn show on August 25 at Thunder Palace. All dates are listed below.
