Buskwick Bikes was ablaze, as Czech grind badasses Gride and Gulf Coast terrorizers P.L.F. played the sticky-hot store on Tuesday (5/25) with support from Powercup and Unmen. Gride and P.L.F. were coming to the end of a tour together that terminated at the Maryland Deathfest Pre-Party (with Iron Lung, Birdflesh, General Surgery, and many notable others).

Unmen kicked the show off with a bang. The New Jersey band’s style of grind had a few decent riffs and plenty of energy to boot. Canadian grind duo Powercup followed and impressed me much less despite their humor/dedication to home repair. “Thanks guys, this one’s called ‘From Enslavement to Renovation'”

Gride was my main attraction, and the Czech grind combo did not disappoint, despite a close to fully-naked man in the pit (johnson-a-flappin) and another that slammed into the bassist, almost causing a premature end to the show. (The bass player muttered something in broken English, handed his instrument to the overeager dancer and gestured, “here, you do it”). Gride’s recorded material whizzes by at an incredible pace, but in the live setting those songs go waaay into the red – blasting away at a seemingly impossible rate. Brutality is an understatement.

Pretty Little Flower headlined the evening and impressed as well; the “Gulf Coast Hardcore” duo toils in a thrashier brand of grind that clearly was well-executed and fun. Whereas Gride were lightning fast and precise with their riffage, P.L.F. valued the bigger tones in addition to their intense blasts (drummer Frank served time in the now much-revered Insect Warfare). Newly converted fan, I am.

A few pics from the show and a pair of (somewhat blown-out) videos are below…
