Grim Streaker releasing ‘No Vision’ (stream a track), playing BV SXSW
Brooklyn’s Grim Streaker have been making a name for themselves in the local scene for a bit now, having shared bills with METZ, Andrew WK, A Place to Bury Strangers, IDLES, Bodega, and more, and they’re gearing up to release their debut LP No Vision on May 17 via Local Fun Boy Records. The album was produced by Mike Kutchman (Parquet Courts, Bush Tetras, WALL), and it features recent single “A.D.D.,” as well as new single “Today New York,” which premieres in this post, along with a video. Grim Streaker channel the classic punk of the late ’70s and early ’80s, and “Today New York” is a very fine example of that. The video features live footage which gives you an idea of how nuts this band can be live, and — spoiler alert! — it ends with singer Amelia Bushell smashing a TV with Trump’s face on it. Amelia tells us:
There’s a lot more to the messages we’re conveying. I dug a lot deeper with the emotions and stories that I tell through my lyrics. And compositionally, the album has a cohesive and meticulously written tone. There’s strong intent to every note and flare instrumentally. What you might think is a mistake is more purposeful than ever.
Check out the new song/video below.
Grim Streaker will be in Austin for SXSW, and one of their shows is the Official BrooklynVegan Showcase with …And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead (playing Madonna in full), Charly Bliss, Ringo Deathstarr, and Weakened Friends. That happens Saturday, 3/16 at Scoot Inn and starts at 8 PM with Grim Streaker’s set.
Grim Streaker also have hometown shows before and after SXSW. They play a New Colossus Fest show on Friday (3/8) at Coney Island Baby with Papercutz, Corey Flood, Bilo, and Blue Odeur (tickets); and The Glove on March 26 with Thick and a special guest (more info). All dates are listed below.
