‘Growlers 6′ Sunday pics (Butthole Surfers, Julian Casablancas, Alice Glass, more)

When it came time to headline both nights of Growlers Six, the festival’s namesake band proved that they’re far beyond their shaggy surf bum beginnings. But they still like to retain the feeling in the way they present their music by refusing to look like they take themselves seriously. In traditional Beach Goth fashion, the band coordinated their costumes and face paint with different motifs each night (Saturday’s theme seemed to be space-age skeletons whereas Sunday was sort of a tin man, sad clown vibe).

Both nights, the band sounded on point. Their set, which anyone who’s seen them live is pretty familiar with by now, was perfectly dialed in. – [OC Weekly]

The Growlers 6 festival, a continuation of what The Growlers started with Beach Goth (and had to abandon after a disastrous fifth edition in 2016), wrapped up Sunday (10/29) in Los Angeles, featuring performances from Dan Auerbach, Butthole Surfers, Julian Casablancas, Alice Glass, Beth Ditto, Girl Talk Girlpool, Geto Boys, Bad Brains, Beach Fossils, a headlining set from The Growlers, and lots more. Sunday was a mostly good vibes day, apart from when a woman barrelled though the crowd during The Regrettes‘ set, rushed the stage and shoved singer Lydia Night to the floor. Night was okay and released a statement via social media:

Being a performer is one of the most vulnerable things you can do. The last thing I want to worry about during a performance is being in danger in any way. The stage should always feel like a safe space for self expression and art. Yesterday, someone invaded my safe space in an aggressive manner and that is absolutely not okay. Thank you for all of your concern and love. I am still pretty shocked about what went down, but I will be totally fine. I did not know the girl who attacked me. I was told she was on a lot of drugs and mistook me for someone else. Love you all and I’ll see you next month on the east coast.
