GWAR, Sick Of It All, Dickies, Municipal Waste, War On Women & more playing Warped Tour 2017

War On Women
War On Women at Bowery Ballroom in 2015 (more by Mathieu Bredeau)

The Warped Tour 2017 lineup has been announced and it’s… not terrible? In addition to the usual garbage like Emmure, they’ve got GWAR, Sick Of It All, The Dickies, Municipal Waste, The Alarm, TSOL, The Adolescents, War On Women, Candiria, Hatebreed, Anti-Flag, Strung Out, Valient Thorr, Riverboat Gamblers, Bad Cop / Bad Cop and more.

The NYC-area dates this year happen on July 7 at BB&T Pavilion in Camden, July 8 at Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theatre in Wantagh, and July 15 at PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel. The lineups vary a bit by city, and those three have all the bands mentioned above except The Dickies and Riverboat Gamblers. Strung Out are on BB&T and Jones Beach but not PNC Bank Arts Center.

Tickets for Warped Tour are on sale now.

One of the more surprising names on that lineup is feminist hardcore band War On Women, who seem like the kind of band that would despise Warped Tour. They issued a statement on their decision to play:

Playing all 40 dates of this year’s Warped Tour is a great opportunity for us as a band to use our privilege for something positive. We don’t have to deal with the day-to-day struggles that many people of color, LGBTQIA folks, people with disabilities, or undocumented people have to face just to exist, so we feel like we’re in a unique position to infiltrate what could be a hostile environment, and ensure that women’s voices are heard, from an intersectional feminist perspective. Safer space/DIY/art space shows can be transforming and life-affirming, even vital to people’s survival, but we’ve always believed that we have the ability to take on the unsafe spaces, and we hope that our involvement can lead to a more victim-centered, and overall welcoming, environment for all.

They’re one of the best bands on the lineup, so if you’re going, don’t miss them.

Warped Tour founder Kevin Lyman also books It’s Not Dead Fest, which focuses more on older punk, and just announced its 2017 lineup.
