GWAR's Sexecutioner proposed to his girlfriend in the middle of the Mermaid Parade

Onetime GWAR member Chuck Varga (you may have known him as Sexecutioner) and Burlesque at the Beach founder Bambi got engaged this weekend at Coney Island’s 34th Mermaid Parade. More specifically, in the parade. Varga got down on one knee on Saturday donning an elaborate Neptune/Poseidon costume and presenting her with a two-foot engagement ring sculpted himself. “It was like a dream come true — the parade is my favorite day of the year, and it means a lot to us,” Bambi told Brooklyn Daily. “To have all of our friends and family around us was really epic. It was the most beautiful thing that’s ever happened to me.”

Varga, now an art director and costume maker, was a member of GWAR in the late ’80s and early ’90s (and has appeared with them sporadically since), while Bambi has been a staple of both the NYC-area burlesque scene and the Mermaid Parade, having attended the parade for 23 years and crowned Queen in 2006.

Varga and Bambi actually met at the 2015 Mermaid Parade.  “I shucked her oyster,” Varga said of their introduction. “We met at a dress rehearsal. She wanted to do my fingernails. During that conversation, we just started to nibble on each other, and I saw her heart and she saw mine. I saw her at this after-party too, and I took her home with me. I told her I was abducting her.”

They are currently planning to get married next year, potentially by parade founder Dick Zigun.

In other GWAR related news, the band is to put out their 14th album sometime in the near future, and the annual GWAR-B-Q goes down in August. Facebook post.
