Heems, Mykki Blanco & and more playing The Met Breuer's "Theater of the Resist" series

Theater of the Resist” is a series featuring live music, film and spoken word that happens on the Fifth Floor of NYC’s The Met Breuer, running Friday and Saturdays now through August 12:

Theater of the Resist takes its name from art making—a technique where the artist uses opposing material to “resist” the medium and thus generating negative space in which to create. This series is presented in conjunction with the exhibition The Body Politic: Video from The Met Collection, on view at The Met Breuer, June 20–September 3, 2017. It will highlight dance, spoken word, music and film from communities that are outside the hegemony. Hosts include: political journalist and musician Kali Holloway, WQXR host Terrance McKnight, and musician and NYPR host/podcaster Helga Davis.

The lineup includes Heems, Mykki Blanco, Stew, Kyp Malone (TV on the Radio), Mega Bog, Shilpa Ray, Zebra Katz, Maria Usbeck, Aparna Nancherla and more. Performances, which are from 6 – 8 PM, are free with museum admittance and the Met Breuer recommends advance registration.

Full schedule and lineup for the Theater of the Resist series is below.

Heems is also playing a benefit at Brooklyn Bazaar in August.
