Helen Money opened for Sleep in Portland (pics), touring Europe with Russian Circles, playing Trans Pecos

Helen Money the cello-wielding, LA-based heavy act also known as Alison Chesley, has been having quite a year. She released her searing new album Become Zero earlier this year, and has been on the road with consistently great metal acts all year. She toured with Magma earlier this year, just hit the road with Russian Circles, and just recently opened for doom legends Sleep in Portland. Invisible Oranges was there, who said in their review:

She brought a somewhat melancholy vibe to a crowd ready for heavy riffs and serious head banging. To anyone unfamiliar with the work of Alison Chesley, the artist that is Helen Money was an unusual choice for such a very specific crowd. Her creative use of the cello with some sparse accompanying percussion and piano tracks creates an intense and subdued atmosphere that is both somber and delicate, and at times visceral and severe.

As mentioned, Helen also has an NYC show coming up at Trans Pecos on December 7. She’ll be joined by Psalm Zero and Bambara, and tickets are on sale now.
