Helloween (reunited with classic lineup members) played Irving (pics, setlist)

German power metal vets Helloween are back with Kai Hansen (who sang lead on their 1985 debut Walls of Jericho and moved to guitar for the next two albums before leaving the band in 1989) and Michael Kiske (who sang lead from 1987’s Keeper of the Seven Keys: Part I through 1993’s Chameleon), and they join Kiske’s replacement Andi Deris who has been fronting the band since 1994. Their tour with this lineup hit NYC for two shows at Irving Plaza over the weekend: Saturday (9/15) and Sunday (9/16). Both shows had almost the exact same setlist save for a couple songs. To quote one attendee who went on Sunday: “Markus Grosskopf is one helluva bassist. You don’t realize until you see him live. Kai Hansen on top form, playing the Walls of Jericho era songs. Kiske & Deris on top form, even harmonizing together on choruses. 3 hour setlist!” Another said “Helloween played almost a 3 hour set. Crowd was wild and sang every song. This show had to be close to sold out if it wasn’t.”

We caught the Saturday show, and pictures of that one are in the gallery above. Check out the Saturday setlist and a few videos from both nights below.
