Henry Jamison releasing 'Gloria Duplex,' touring w/ Guster (listen to "American Babes")

Vermont songwriter Henry Jamison is preparing to release his sophomore album, Gloria Duplex, on February 8 via Akira Records. On the Thomas Bartlett (aka Doveman) produced album, which features strings from Rob Moose (who’s worked with Bon Iver and Phoebe Bridgers, among others), Henry explores themes of toxic masculinity (something he recently discussed with the New York Times), and boyhood and manhood in America, over a tuneful, stirring palette of folk music. See the album art and tracklist for Gloria Duplex below.

We’re premiering a new single from Gloria Duplex, “American Babes,” which you can listen to below. “This song is a mini tableau of Americans,” Henry says of the song. “The verses are about a group of students that I saw on the train from New York to Vermont years ago and about a homeless man who I talked to once in Baltimore. The juxtaposition isn’t totally worked-out, but it’s loosely about young people who still feel some trust in institutions and an old man who felt utterly failed by them. When the structures of our lives crash down, what can we lean on? The bridge in the song is a nightmare-scape in which I’m trying to make out the words of a shapeshifting woman who’s standing on a burning house; she’s singing ‘all in time, will we see both sides’ and ‘all love’s excelling’: hopeful sentiments that I have no choice but to believe.”

Henry is on tour with Boston alt-rock vets Guster now (who are returning this week with their own first album in eight years) through February, and he heads overseas for some dates in March. See all of his upcoming tour dates below.
