Hiss Golden Messenger @ Music Hall of Williamsburg (pics, setlist)

Hiss Golden Messenger‘s tour hit Brooklyn on Tuesday (12/18) for a show at Music Hall of Williamsburg. It felt little more intimate than your average MHOW show, as the audience stood hushed as MC Taylor and his band, which included Phil Cook and Josh Kaufman, performed. Taylor is supporting the release of Devotion: Songs About Rivers and Spirits and Children, a box set that includes reissues Bad Debt, Poor Moon, and Haw, plus a fourth disc of rarities. Taylor spoke about writing new song “Happy Birthday” for his daughter and how, earlier in the day, some fans tried to bribe him with food into playing a Grateful Dead song. He didn’t play the one they wanted but he did work “Franklin’s Tower” into “Lucia.”
