Holly Herndon announces new album 'PROTO,' shares "Eternal"

Last December, electronic/art pop musician Holly Herndon released the new single “Godmother” that she made with an A.I. entity she developed named “Spawn” and fellow electronic musician Jlin. Now Holly has announced that she has an entire new album with Spawn, PROTO, coming May 10 via 4AD. It’s the followup to 2015’s great Platform.

The album features “Godmother” as well as the just-released “Eternal.” The album also features an ensemble of vocalists, as you can see/hear in “Eternal” and its video. Holly said (via Pitchfork):

There’s a pervasive narrative of technology as dehumanizing. We stand in contrast to that. It’s not like we want to run away; we’re very much running towards it, but on our terms. Choosing to work with an ensemble of humans is part of our protocol. I don’t want to live in a world in which humans are automated off stage. I want an A.I. to be raised to appreciate and interact with that beauty.

Other guests on the album are Lily Anna Haynes, Jenna Sutela, and Martine Syms. Check out the “Eternal” and “Godmother” videos and the full tracklist below.
