House of Vans

House of Vans 2018 BK & Chicago 2018 summer concerts (Interpol, Deerhunter, Slowdive, more)

As you may remember, the Brooklyn House of Vans location is sadly closing after its 2018 season. Today, the lineup for the final series of summer concerts at House of Vans Brooklyn has been announced. For this season, “each headlining artist will act as a curator, hand-picking all supporting talent and will be creating a personalized visual art experience for fans.”

The headliners for Brooklyn include Action Bronson on June 14, Slowdive on June 30, Suicidal Tendencies on July 14, a special guest TBA for July 24, Against Me! on August 3, Pennywise on August 10, Deerhunter on August 18, and Interpol on August 24.

The summer series for House of Vans Chicago was also announced, beginning on May 31 with Vic Mensa, who hand-picked local artist Floyd A. Davis IV “to create an immersive, multimedia experience that will combine sculpture and music into a functional speaker wall.” Vic’s openers are San Francisco hip hop collective The Pack and Chicago rapper KAMI. RSVP for that show is open now.

After Vic, HOV Chicago includes Princess Nokia on June 8, Iceage on June 21, Dead Milkmen on July 12, Unknown Mortal Orchestra on July 27, and Wolf Parade on August 8.

Though House of Vans will no longer exist in Brooklyn after this year, Vans has another program in the works for this borough…

The brand is proud to announce the ‘Vans Gives A Band Music Fund’, a legacy program that was created to inspire and empower students to embrace their creativity through music. Ten Brooklyn public schools will have a chance to receive $10,000 of music equipment to form one of the following bands: rock band, jazz band or classical ensemble. In addition, each winning school will receive a $10,000 grant to fund their music program. “Vans believes everyone should be empowered to express themselves creatively, but creative outlets are not always accessible,” says Brooke Burt, Vans Senior Manager of Lifestyle Marketing. “House of Vans opened its doors to give people the opportunity to showcase their art, learn to skate and perform their music live. We want to extend that creative energy outside the walls of House of Vans, further giving the next generation the tools needed to discover their creative talents.”

All Brooklyn public schools can submit a grant application starting now through May 31 at www.vans.com/givesaband. The winning schools will be announced this June. For additional rules and information, please visit www.vans.com/givesaband.
