Hurricane Florence concert cancellations & tour updates

Hurricane Florence has made landfall in North Carolina, bringing with it high winds and rains, power outages, storm surges and flash flooding. Now a Category One storm, the hurricane is still doing a lot of damage, with CNN reporting that over 40 inches of rain are expected in some locations, and record wind gusts have already been reported in Wilmington, NC. The North Carolina Department of Public Safety has compiled a list of emergency shelters in the state, which you can access here; in South Carolina, the SC Emergency Management Division also has a list that they’re still adding shelters to. FEMA, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, has created a rumor control page to counteract false information spread on social media, so check there before RTing any claims that seem unlikely.

If you’re in the path of the storm, CNN has some recommendations on staying connected, including enabling low power mode on your phone, installing apps like Zello, FireChat and Glympse for communication, downloading offline Google Maps, and enabling emergency push alerts. And if you’re hit with flooding, USDA reminds you not to eat food that’s been touched by flood water, and to discard anything edible, including damaged cans, milk, and baby formula, not in a waterproof container.

The hurricane is also having an effect on upcoming shows in the Carolinas and beyond, with cancellations and rescheduling effecting many shows scheduled for this weekend. Read on for a list of the changes to shows on our radar (in other words, we purposely left off Buckcherry), and leave a comment below with anything we’re missing:

NEKO CASE

Neko Case has been on tour promoting her 2018 album Hell-On, but as Neko tweeted, “due to incoming Hurricane Florence, we’ve been forced to postpone our performance at Jefferson Theater in Charlottesville, VA on 9/15. While this is regretful, the safety of all involved is our highest priority. Stay tuned for rescheduling info.” Her Friday (9/14) show scheduled for Chapel Hill, NC’s Memorial Hall has also been postponed.

JAWBREAKER

The reunited Jawbreaker were set to play two beach town shows in the NYC area, in Coney Island, Brooklyn and Asbury Park, NJ, but they’ve both been cancelled: “Jawbreaker and Live Nation have decided to postpone the shows scheduled for this Friday 9/14 at the Ford Amphitheater at Coney Island, NY and Saturday 9/15 at the Stone Pony Summer Stage in Asbury Park, NJ. With the impending hurricane headed to the East Coast, We had to act with you in mind. With people traveling from all over the Eastern Seaboard, we felt it was best to protect them and at the very least save them from likely delays, cancellations and overall hassle of a potential last minute cancellation (for instance, Stone Pony summer stage will shut own at first lightning). Rather than risk it, we are announcing now to give people time to change their plans.” Rescheduling is in the works, and “ticket holders will be able to attend one of either of the venues we land on in New York and New Jersey.”

LIFE OF AGONY / SILVERTOMB

Life of Agony’s “Rise of the Underground” tour is underway with with Silvertomb (featuring Kenny Hickey and Johnny Kelly of Type O Negative), but: “Due to the anticipation of severe weather conditions caused by Hurricane Florence, Baltimore, MD’s Soundstage performance has been moved from Friday, Sept. 14th to Sunday, Sept. 30th. Also, the venue in Pittsburgh, PA on Sunday, Sept. 23rd has been moved from The Rex to Cattivo. All tickets remain valid.”

FRANKIE COSMOS / LOMELDA / STEF CHURA

Frankie Cosmos were scheduled to start their fall tour with Lomelda and Stef Chura on Thursday (9/13) in Baltimore, MD, but that date has been pushed back to December, along with Friday (9/14) in Durham, NC and Saturday (9/15) in Asheville, NC.

Ski Mask The Slump God’s Friday (9/14) show at The NorVa has been postponed: “due to the threat of Hurricane Florence & Mandatory Evacuation of Zone A (inclusive of Downtown Norfolk) Ski Mask The Slump God scheduled for this Fri is being postponed. All tix purchased for the show this Fri will be honored on the new date. New date to be announced soon.”
