Ian MacKaye says Ted Leonsis’ offer for Fugazi to reunite is not “newsworthy”

Earlier this week, billionaire Fugazi fan Ted Leonsis, who owns the Washington Capitals, Wizards, Mystics, and the Capital One Arena, tweeted “Let us all work to get Fugazi to reunite, play at our Arena, we will compensate the band, and make a major donation to local charities in their names, it has been too long. They resonate well with all generations, we miss them” which got certain segment of Twitter really talking. (Fugazi have been inactive since 2003.) Former Fugazi frontman Ian MacKaye, when asked about it by Washington, DC news station WTOP, didn’t seem to take the offer too seriously.  “I honestly don’t think it’s newsworthy,” he told WTOP. “My impression was that it was meant more as a compliment than an actual offer, so there really wasn’t anything to consider other than the kind words. They were appreciated.” We say, Ted don’t take that as a no — maybe try guaranteed $5 tickets?

In other Fugazi news, Nitehawk Park Slope has added a second 20th anniversary screening of Fugazi: Instrument with a Guy Picciotto Q&A too.
