Iggy Pop & Flea make brief appearances in the first trailer for Terrence Malick's 'Song to Song'

Song to Song, Terrence Malick‘s long-long-in-the-works film set in the Austin music scene, will make its premiere at SXSW Film Festival on March 10. The film stars Ryan Gosling, Rooney Mara, Michael Fassbender and Natalie Portman in this…

…modern love story set against the Austin, Texas music scene, two entangled couples—struggling songwriters Faye (Rooney Mara) and BV (Ryan Gosling), and music mogul Cook (Michael Fassbender) and the waitress whom he ensnares (Natalie Portman)—chase success through a rock ‘n’ roll landscape of seduction and betrayal.

The first trailer for the film has just been released and, as usual with Malick, it’s more about vibes than plot, soundtracked to Del Shannon’s “Runaway.” Malick shot scenes with tons of musicians over the years, not to mention Christian Bale, Cate Blanchet and Val Kilmer. We get brief flashes of Iggy Pop and Flea in this this trailer. Who will make the final cut? You’ll just have to wait. But you can watch trailer below.

Folks in NYC and LA won’t have to wait too long after SXSW to watch Song to Song, the film opens in those cities on March 17. No word yet on where Song to Song will play in NYC. Stay tuned.

Flea will make a not-as-brief appearance in NYC tonight and Saturday, as part of Red Hot Chili Peppers’ three-night run at Madison Square Garden.
