Imaad Wasif preps new LP 'Dzi' -- watch the "Carry the Scar" video directed by Austin Lynch (David's son)

Imaad Wasif has been making music since the early ’00s, having released albums on Kill Rock Stars, Tee Pee and others, and has collaborated with Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Lykke Li, Lou Barlow & Folk Implosion, Black Mountain’s Stephen McBean, and more. For his new album, Dzi, he heads into new territory, making heavy, blistering psych rock. Working with producer Bobb Bruno (of Best Coast), most of it was recorded live to 8-track tape. We’ve got the premiere of the video for “Carry  the Scar,” which was directed by Austin Lynch (the son of filmmaker David Lynch). Like his dad, Austin uses long, lingering takes and even some fire. The visual vibe fits the song’s spiraling riffing and you can watch it below.

Dzi is out June 16 via Grey Market (preorder). Wasif plays Los Angeles tonight (6/6) at the Bootleg Theatre and his backing band is Bobb Bruno on bass and Mike Bulington (Grimble Grumble) on drums. Avi Buffalo and Iress are also on the bill (tickets). That’s Imaad’s only tour date at the moment.
