J Bannon curating Roadburn 2018; Converge playing 'You Fail Me' & more

The annual Netherlands heavy music festival Roadburn returns in 2018 from April 19-22. This year’s curator is Converge frontman Jacob Bannon, and the lineup will include two Converge shows. One has them playing 2004’s You Fail Me in full and the other has them playing the upcoming The Dusk In Us in full. On curating and playing You Fail Me, Jacob says:

It is an honor to be working as the curator for Roadburn Festival 2018. The festival is unlike any other, showcasing the most forward thinking artists and musicians of the heavy music world. As this year’s curator I will reach across its sub-genres to bring together an array of incredible bands/musicians, expanding the reach of the festival while celebrating the world of extreme music that we all love.

…In 2016, [Converge] played our Jane Doe album in its entirety at Roadburn Festival. For our 2018 return, we will perform our album You Fail Me in its entirety. Originally released in 2004, this album marked a turning point for our band internally and in many ways it is considered the beginning of the modern era of our band. This performance will be a one time only event, exclusive to Roadburn.

Converge will play the new album on Thursday and You Fail Me on Friday. Jacob will curate the main stage at the 013 venue on Friday and Het Patronaat on Saturday.

Godspeed You! Black Emperor will perform two different sets as Saturday and Sunday headliners, Bell Witch will perform two sets (including one of their new one-song 83-minute album Mirror Reaper in full), Panopticon will play two sets, and Einar Selvik & Ivar Bjørnson will present HUGSJÁ for the first time outside of Norway. The lineup also includes Colin Stetson and Greg Fox’s band Ex Eye, plus The Heads, IGORRR, Aerial Ruin, Sangre de Muerdago, and more TBA.

Tickets for Roadburn go on sale October 19.

As quoted by Jacob Bannon above, Roadburn 2016 had Converge playing Jane Doe in full. Converge also brought their Blood Moon ensemble (featuring Chelsea Wolfe and Stephen Brodsky) to Roadburn that year, and Bannon made the live debut of his Wear Your Wounds project (with members of The Red Chord, Trap Them, Hatebreed, and more) at Roadburn 2017. Wear Your Wounds are about to play their first US shows, and Converge are touring here too.
