J. Cole’s Dreamville Festival cancelled because of Hurricane Florence

J. Cole - Dreamville Festival 2018

J. Cole’s inaugural Dreamville Festival, which was scheduled to take place at Raleigh, NC’s Dorothea Dix Park on September 15, has been cancelled because of Hurricane Florence. “We’re working to get another date,” J. Cole tweeted, “but right now safety is most important. I appreciate everybody that was headed to rock with us. 30,000 + were expected.”

Dreamville posted an update on social media, saying, “our team has been working tirelessly with officials from the City of Raleigh, along with our State and Federal Partners, among others, to monitor the potential negative impact of Hurricane Florence. With the current weather-related information at hand, we have together decided to cancel this year’s event for the ultimate safety of both the local citizens and festival attendees.”

SZA, Young Thug, Big Sean, Teyana Taylor, Nelly, Rich the Kid, Saba, Rapsody, J.I.D., YBN Cordae, Cozz, Bas, Earthgang, J. Cole himself, and others were scheduled to perform at the festival on Saturday. Ticketholders will be “100% refunded,” according to Dreamville’s statement.

The Washington Post reports that Hurricane Florence, currently a Category 4 hurricane with 140-mph winds, “could soon be on the brink of a Category 5.” Dare County and Hatteras Island in North Carolina have already been issued mandatory evacuation orders.
