Jack Black Game of Thrones

Jack Black sings 'Game of Thrones' theme Tenacious D style + Serj Tankian & more

The Game of Thrones HBO series drew to a close on Sunday night, and whatever your thoughts on that ending are, it’s finally over… until the prequel comes out. For those still holding out hope that book series author George R. R. Martin might provide a more satisfying conclusion (or finish the series at all), well, optimism might be too strong a word, but he did address the issue in a new post on his blog:

And I’m writing. Winter is coming, I told you, long ago… and so it is. THE WINDS OF WINTER is very late, I know, I know, but it will be done. I won’t say when, I’ve tried that before, only to burn you all and jinx myself… but I will finish it, and then will come A DREAM OF SPRING.

How will it all end? I hear people asking. The same ending as the show? Different? Well… yes. And no. And yes. And no. And yes. And no. And yes.

I am working in a very different medium than David and Dan, never forget. They had six hours for this final season. I expect these last two books of mine will fill 3000 manuscript pages between them before I’m done… and if more pages and chapters and scenes are needed, I’ll add them. And of course the butterfly effect will be at work as well; those of you who follow this Not A Blog will know that I’ve been talking about that since season one. There are characters who never made it onto the screen at all, and others who died in the show but still live in the books… so if nothing else, the readers will learn what happened to Jeyne Poole, Lady Stoneheart, Penny and her pig, Skahaz Shavepate, Arianne Martell, Darkstar, Victarion Greyjoy, Ser Garlan the Gallant, Aegon VI, and a myriad of other characters both great and small that viewers of the show never had the chance to meet.

Meanwhile, to start off the latest video on his “Jablinski Games” YouTube channel, Jack Black does an a capella version of the Game of Thrones theme song in the (acapella) style of Tenacious D. Watch the video, which features him wielding a sick foam version of Longclaw and wearing alternately, a Targaryen shirt and a three wolf moon shirt (to represent house Stark), below.

Anamanaguchi did their own take on the Game of Thrones theme way back in 2012; watch that below as well.

The soundtrack for season 8 of GoT, which is out now, includes a rendition of “The Rains of Castamere” with vocals from System of a Down’s Serj Tankian, like he did live at a Game of Thrones Live Concert Experience show in 2017. Listen to that below. There are more GoT Live Concert Experience shows coming up this fall – hopefully Serj will reprise his guest appearance at one or more of them.
