Very Special Story time with Jack White and Elinor Blake at a Barnes & Noble in L.A.

Jack White planning LP, celebrating new children's book at NYC Barnes & Noble

Jack White was interviewed by Gary Oldman for the November issue of Interview Magazine, and he offered some details in a new solo album, which will be the followup to 2014’s Lazaretto. He said:

I’ve been recording in New York, Los Angeles, and Nashville. I’ve never recorded in New York or L.A. before. I tried to go to some new places and meet musicians I’ve never met before, and see if I could get to a new place. I’m getting somewhere. I’ll send you something. It’s good gardening music or roofing music or, you know, back-alley stabbing music. [Oldman laughs] I’m trying to think of some good activities that people haven’t written songs for yet.

Well, there you have it. Jack White’s new album will be “good gardening music or roofing music or, you know, back-alley stabbing music.” Third Man Records posted a photo of Jack and his band at the LA studio over the summer and you can check that out, along with a pic of he and the band recording in NYC, below.

Meanwhile, before Jack White releases his new album, he’ll release his new children’s book, We’re Going to Be Friends (named after the White Stripes song), this Tuesday (11/7) via Third Man Books. Here’s more on that:

We’re Going to be Friends” is one of The White Stripes most enduring and loved songs. With the help of illustrator Elinor Blake (aka April March), the perennial favorite feels right at home on the page as a children’s book. Coming this November, children, adults, and you, too, can join Suzy Lee as she goes to school with her books and pens, looks for bugs, shows and tells, and finds a friend.
• WE’RE GOING TO BE FRIENDS, a new children’s book based on song lyrics from one of the most loved and recognizable songs by THE WHITE STRIPES.

• WE’RE GOING TO BE FRIENDS is the first book by twelve-time Grammy winning musician, actor, and producer JACK WHITE.

• Illustrator ELINOR BLAKE was an animator for The Ren and Stimpy Show, Pee-wee’s Playhouse & more. As a musician, she is known as singer APRIL MARCH, who’s song “Chick Habit” was featured in Quentin Tarantino’s movie Death Proof.

• The original White Stripes song along with new versions by April March and also The Woodstation Elementary School Singers will be included via download with the book.

Jack is celebrating the release of the book in NYC at the Upper West Side Barnes & Noble on Saturday (11/11). He and Elinor will both be there for a reading and signing. They did the same thing at a Barnes & Noble in LA this past Saturday (11/4), and that’s a picture of that above.
