'Love Will Find A Way Home' artwork

Jacolby Satterwhite & Teengirl Fantasy's Nick Weiss releasing LP as PAT (stream a track)

PAT is the collaborative project of acclaimed visual artist Jacolby Satterwhite, who most recently worked on Solange’s visual album that accompanied her new record When I Get Home, and Teengirl Fantasy’s Nick Weiss. (It has no association with JD Samson’s ongoing PAT party at Union Pool, if you were wondering.) The project takes its name from Satterwhite’s mother Patricia, who suffered from schizophrenia, died in 2016 and left behind hundreds of acapella recordings on cassette tapes, as well as drawings. Satterwhite and Weiss took those recordings, sampled them and manipulated them, added beats and orchestration, turning them into something new. The result: Love Will Find A Way Home, both an album and a book, that will be out October 25 via Pioneer Works Press. The album features contributions from Kindness, Lafawndah, cellist Patrick Belaga and more; while the 34-page book — part of the hardcover, gatefold double-vinyl package — includes Patricia’s lyrics and drawings, as well as images of the cassette tapes and ephemera she left behind. You can listen to the haunting, beautiful and trip-hop-esque “We Are In Hell When We Hurt Each Other,” which features Belaga, below.

The album’s release coincides Jacolby Satterwhite’s art installation “You’re at home” which will be at Pioneer Works from October 4 – November 24 and “revolves around his multipart, digitally-animated series Birds in Paradise. The exhibition manifests as an immersive environment of video projections, virtual reality, live performance, sculpture, and a retail store styled to resemble a defunct Tower Records.” You can read more about the installation here.
