Touring the North America for the first time in 10 years, original Public Image Limited bassist and post-punk great Jah Wobble (who has incorporated jazz, world music and other sounds into his music since), brought his group The Invaders of the Heart to NYC for a show at Bowery Ballroom on September 21. Across two sets, he drew from throughout his career, including PiL songs (with samples of John Lydon), his great 1982 single “How Much Are They” (recorded with Can’s Jaki Liebezeit and Holger Czukay) as well as covers of Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain” and John Barry’s “Midnight Cowboy Theme.” The second set featured Wobble’s old friend and collaborator Bill Laswell.
Experimental folk/drone duo 75 Dollar Bill opened the show. Pictures from the whole night are in the gallery above.
