Jam Cruise's Jam Room coming to BK Comes Alive w/ George Porter Jr & more

Annual jam marathon Brooklyn Comes Alive, which BrooklynVegan is a media sponsor of this year, has expanded its schedule to include the first-ever on-land edition of Jam Cruise’s Jam Room. Here are the deets:

Starting at midnight, Music Hall of Williamsburg will be transformed into the beloved Jam Room for two unique sets, led by honorary hosts hand-picked by the festival. The Jam Room welcomes an open environment of creativity, encouraging artists performing on the bill to hang out, jump on stage and join the fray, often leading to wild, unexpected and memorable collaborations. Historically, it is one of the most exciting parts of Jam Cruise as you never know who will show up in the Jam Room, and Brooklyn Comes Alive is thrilled to host the on-shore debut.

For these very special collaborative sets, Brooklyn Comes Alive welcomes The Meters bassist and GRAMMY Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient, George Porter Jr., to lead the first set, who enthusiastically shared, “I am looking forward to bringing the magic of the Jam Cruise Jam Room to this year’s Brooklyn Comes Alive. It’s going to be funky and fun.”

The second set will be led by a special tag-team of Turkuaz guitarist Craig Brodhead and Marco Benevento bassist Karina Rykman. Of The Jam Room, Brodhead said, “If you’ve ever had the privilege of hanging in the Jam Room late into the night on Jam Cruise, you know there’s a lot to be learned from the experience. It gets weird in there. That doesn’t always mean good or bad, but one must always pass through the ‘Door Of Weirdness’ to experience the truly great improvisational moments. I am truly honored to be joining forces at Brooklyn Comes Alive with the incomparable Karina Rykman for a very special Jam Room modeled on this experience, and we’ll do our best to steer the ship and man the stations with the finest musicians Brooklyn will have on hand that evening!”

BCA goes down September 29 at Music Hall of Williamsburg, Brooklyn Bowl and Rough Trade, and the lineup includes tributes to Prince (with former Prince bassist MonoNeon and more), Col. Bruce Hampton, Butch Trucks, Gregg Allman, and Steely Dan. Members of Darkside, The Disco Biscuits, Dopapod, Trey Anastasio Band, Pretty Lights’ live band, Snarky Puppy, and many more are involved in the day’s several performances.

Tickets are still available, and you can also win a pair.
