Chicago neo-soul singer Jamila Woods released one of the year’s best albums so far with LEGACY! LEGACY! last month, and she brought her tour supporting it to Brooklyn’s Music Hall of Williamsburg on Friday (5/31). Joined by a live band, Jamila played every song from the new album (almost in the exact order of the album), plus a few older cuts, and she often projected footage on the screen behind her of the artist the song is named after. (Every song on the new album is named after a different black or brown icon.) Nitty Scott opened the show, and also joined Jamila during her set for her show-stealing guest verse on “SONIA.” Jamila’s voice and presence were stunning, and she had the crowd loving her the whole time. Pictures are in the gallery above.
