Jane Birkin playing Gainsbourg tribute at Carnegie Hall (1st U.S. show in 6 years)
This year, Jane Birkin released Birkin/Gainsbourg: Le symphonique, a symphonic tribute to her late husband Serge Gainsbourg featuring orchestrated versions of songs from throughout his careeer, including ones he wrote specifically for her. “It is a privilege that one of the greatest French writers wrote for me from the age of 20 to 45,” Birkin says. “In a way it never stopped. It’s a strange situation. What can I do for him now, even though it’s too late! At least I can wear him, take him with me. Say his words!” You can stream the album below.
Birkin has been performing Le Symphonique at concerts around the globe and will bring it to NYC’s Carnegie Hall on February 1 with the Wordless Music Orchestra. Tickets for that show go on sale Friday, September 22 at 11 AM with an AmEx presale beginning Wednesday (9/20) at 11 AM.
