Janet Weiss' band Slang debut new lineup (with Kathy from Thermals) and song

Not only did Sleater-Kinney drummer Janet Weiss join Thermals bassist Kathy Foster‘s new band Roseblood, Kathy also joined Janet’s band Slang, who have existed for a few years but used to just be the duo of Janet and singer/guitarist Drew Grow (also of Modern Kin and Drew Grow and the Pastors Wives). Rounding out the new lineup of slang is Anita Lee Elliott of Portland bands Viva Voce and Blue Giant.

The new version of Slang also just released their first single, “Warm Enough.” It’s a dose of scrappy, poppy garage rock, and it’s got a lyric video starring a tiger, with the lyrics going across the screen Star Wars style. You can watch/listen below.

The new version of Slang will make their live debut on August 9 at Funhouse in Seattle with The U.S. Americans and Fan Portraits opening (tickets). No word on other Slang dates yet, but stay tuned.

In related news, Kathy Foster’s band Hurry Up (which also includes Maggie Vail, who’s also in Roseblood) are opening the two Portland shows of Jawbreaker’s reunion tour, which also have Swearin’ on the bill.

And lastly, The U.S. Americans (who open for Slang in Seattle) will also be in NYC for a show on 8/4 at Bowery Ballroom with The New Tarot, You Bred Raptors?, and Apollo’s Ghost (tickets).
