Jason Isbell

Jason Isbell Ryman residency underway + he played the song he wrote for 'A Star Is Born' (watch)

Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit is in the midst of his fall residency at Nashville’s historic Ryman Auditorium — which is shaping up to be a mostly annual thing — with a different Nashville-based opener each night: Molly Tuttle on night one, JEFF the Brotherhood on night two, Bully on night three, Amanda Shires on night four, Diarrhea Planet (who say they’re breaking up for good after this show) on night five, and Melanie Faye on the sixth and final night.

The run began on Monday (10/22) and continued on Tuesday (10/23) and Wednesday (10/24). We haven’t seen Wednesday night’s setlist yet, but Isbell did a pretty good job of mixing things up at nights one and two and presumably that will continue. At night one, he made the live debut of “Maybe It’s Time,” the song he wrote for the new, much-loved A Star Is Born remake with Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper (Bradley Cooper sings the song in the movie and the soundtrack is currently the #1 album in the U.S.). He played it again on night two as well, and you can watch video of that below. Check out a few other pics and videos from the shows, and the full setlists for the first two nights below as well.

The run continues tonight (10/25) with Amanda Shires, who will be pulling double duty as she’s also in the 400 Unit. Amanda made her headlining debut at the Ryman earlier this year, and she also released her great new album To The Sunset this year.

Meanwhile, the 400 Unit just released their new live album Live From The Ryman, which was recorded during last year’s run, and you can stream that below. The band also just announced a major show for September 2019, Red Rocks Amphitheatre with the legendary David Crosby. Croz joined the 400 Unit at Newport Folk Fest earlier this year to play the Crosby Stills & Nash/Jefferson Airplane song “Wooden Ships,” and an official recording of that was recently released.
