Jawbreaker announce NYC, LA & SF shows (some with Waxahatchee)
Some thought it would never happen, but Jawbreaker finally returned for the first time in 22 years and headlined Riot Fest 2017 with a killer set that genuinely made them look like the rock stars that new documentary Don’t Break Down suggested they always could have been. (It followed a tiny surprise warm-up show in California.) At the NYC screening of Don’t Break Down (which BrooklynVegan presented), frontman Blake Schwarzenbach said there’d be a “95% chance” of a New York show after Riot Fest, and the band have finally announced that show… or shows actually, as there are three.
Jawbreaker will play Brooklyn Steel on February 26, 27 and 28, with Charly Bliss and comedian Emily Flake on night 1, comedian Clare O’Kane on night 2, and comedian Kate Willett on night 3. Nights 2 and 3 also have “surprise special guests.” Tickets go on sale Friday (1/12) at noon.
Jawbreaker also play two San Francisco shows this weekend, and LA’s Palladium on March 8 and 9 with Waxahatchee. More dates in other cities are possibly/probably TBA. Stay tuned!
Last month, Jawbreaker reissued their 1989 demo, remixed by Jawbox’s J Robbins and remastered by John Golden. Stream that and watch the video for “Fireman” below.
Speaking of Waxahatchee and classic ’90s bands, singer Katie Crutchfield contributed to the new Superchunk song that came out today.
