Jawbreaker documentary screening @ Nitehawk Prospect Park w/ band Q&A

Don't Break Down a Film About Jawbreaker

Nitehawk Cinema in Williamsburg has been doing the BrooklynVegan-presented Music Driven series for a while now, and they’re now bringing it to the new Nitehawk Prospect Park location as well. The first screening will be Don’t Break Down: A Film About Jawbreaker on March 21 and Jawbreaker’s Blake Schwarzenbach, Adam Pfahler and Chris Bauermeister will be in attendance, including a post-screening Q&A. Tickets are on sale now and you can watch the trailer below.

Meanwhile over at Nitehawk Williamsburg on February 27 they’re showing 1987 musical-drama Round Midnight:

Inside the Blue Note nightclub one night in 1959 Paris, an aged, ailing jazz man coaxes an eloquent wail from his tenor sax. Outside, a young Parisian too broke to buy a glass of wine strains to hear those notes. Soon they will form a friendship that sparks a burst of genius in director Bertrand Tavernier’s Round Midight, starring bebop legend Dexter Gordon.

There will be a post-screening Q&A with director Bertrand Tavernier, and the film will be introduced by Dexter Gordon’s step-son and director of The Dexter Gordon Society, Woody Louis Armstrong Shaw III. Tickets are on sale and you can watch the trailer below.

UPDATE: Unfortunately Bertrand Tavernier will not be able to attend but the Round Midnight screening will still happen.

Then on March 7 at Nitehawk Williamsburg, they’ll screen documentary Being Frank: The Chris Sievey Story which is about the man behind Frank Sidebottom (who also fronted punk band The Freshies):

Chris Sievey’s life was a subversive piece of performance art. His greatest creation, a paper mâché headed Frank Sidebottom, became a manic and insane star obscuring his own creator who descended into alcoholism and bankruptcy. The Frank Sidebottom story tells the twisted tale of a split personality, exploring the extraordinary secret life of a songwriter, artist, comedian and wayward genius.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Chris’ good friends, and legendary superfans Dennis & Lois. Tickets are on sale and you can watch a few clips from the film below. You really can. Thank you.
