Jenny Hval @ Glasslands – 10/2/13
Norway’s Jenny Hval makes a kind of forward-thinking art pop equally indebted to Laurie Anderson as it is to PJ Harvey, which needless to say, is quite an interesting mix. She just brought these sounds over to North America for a full tour, including stops at NYC’s Mercury Lounge on Tuesday (10/1) and Glasslands last night (10/2). We caught the Glasslands show where the crowd paid close attention, which is exactly what this kind of thing calls for. Unfortunately, there was a bit of bleeding through the walls from the much louder Radical Dads show at 285 Kent next door, which Jenny commented on during her, but took it in stride. Opening the show was Tica Douglas and Ludwig Persik, and pictures of all three artists are in this post.
