Jessica Pratt Quiet Signs

Jessica Pratt announces new LP 'Quiet Signs,' shares song, touring with Kurt Vile

Jessica Pratt revealed earlier this year that she signed to Mexican Summer for a new album, and then announced a tour opening for Kurt Vile, but still no word on the LP. Now the followup to 2015’s great On Your Own Love Again (released on Drag City) has finally been announced. It’s called Quiet Signs and it comes out February 8 via Mexican Summer (pre-order). The first single is “This Time Around,” which instantly proves the last three years have done nothing to taint Jessica’s captivating sound. This is Jessica’s first album recorded in a professional studio, but “This Time Around” still sounds like the kind of somber folk song you could imagine Jessica recording alone in her bedroom in the middle of the night. It’s got just a tiny bit more atmospheric embellishment than most songs on her last album had, but otherwise she’s sticking to the formula that made her fans fall in love with her music and that’s not a bad thing at all. The album was co-produced by Jessica and Al Carlson, who also played flute, organ and piano on parts of it, and there’s piano and synth courtesy of Matt McDermott. Listen and watch the Laura-Lynn Petrick-directed video for the new song, below.

Before the tour with Kurt Vile begins, Jessica Pratt plays a Kingston, NY show at The Beverly on November 23 (tickets). As mentioned, the tour with Kurt includes NYC’s Brooklyn Steel on 11/28 (tickets). All of her dates are listed below.

Kurt Vile, whose great new album Bottle It In is out now, has lots of other tour dates, including a second Brooklyn Steel show with Frankie Cosmos on 11/29 (tickets).
