Joan Jett, M.I.A., ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ & more upcoming “Times Talks”

The New York Times‘ “Times Talks” series always has some interesting conversations in the works and there are a few of note this fall.

On September 27 at Merkin Concert Hall, M.I.A. will talk with about her upcoming documentary, MATANGI / MAYA / M.I.A. TIckets are on sale and you can watch a clip from the documentary, which is in theaters September 28, below.

Joan Jett will be at Florence Gould Hall on October 1, to discuss “rising to the top of the patriarchal music industry, bouncing back from disparaging reviews, and how she never compromised her ethics or creative integrity along the way” (tickets). Joan’s catalog recently (finally) was added to streaming services.

You can get an early look at Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody at Florence Gould Hall on October 29 and there’s a Q&A afterward with star Rami Malek (who might spill some beans about the upcoming final season of Mr. Robot). Tickets are on sale and you can watch the Bohemian Rhapsody trailer below.

And on November 13 at Directors Guild of America Theater, filmmaker Steve McQueen will hold an advance screening of his new heist film Widows (which was highly praised at Toronto International Film Festival) followed by a Q&A. TIckets are on sale and you can watch the trailer for Widows, which stars Viola Davis, Daniel Kaluuya, Liam Neeson, Jacki Weaver, Colin Farrell, and Michelle Rodriguez (and was written by Gone Girl/Sharp Objects‘ Gillian Flynn), below.

A couple more: Tiffany Haddish and Kevin Hart will talk about their new film Night School on Thursday (9/20) at Aaron Davis Hall at City College Center for the Arts (tickets); and Melissa McCarthy and Richard E Grant will talk about their upcoming film Can You Ever Forgive Me? (tickets).
