Tim Kinsella told us in an interview last year that Joan of Arc already had a followup to 2017’s He’s Got The Whole This Land Is Your Land In His Hands on the way and that album has been announced. It’s called 1984 and it comes out June 1 via Joyful Noise. It’s the band’s second album with the lineup that recorded HGTWTLIYLIHH — Tim Kinsella, Theo Katsaounis, Melina Ausikaitis, Bobby Burg, and Jeremy Boyle — and Melina Ausikaitis takes lead vocals for this album. According to a press release:

There is awkward sex at Grandma’s house. There are kids in the snow wearing cop sunglasses and the crumbling psychic defenses of childhood memories. There are A-frame houses and white horses. There are trucks losing their brakes on the hill at the end of the street. There are heaps of thoroughly useful self-help advice (“stop chicken-shittin’ all over your life” has become a personal mantra).

The first taste of the Melina-fronted album is “Truck,” a dose of atmospheric pop that’s a little prettier sounding than Joan of Arc tend to be, but still totally eccentric. Listen below.

Tim Kinsella was in NYC for a solo show and a Q&A with Blake Schwarzenbach earlier this month, and Joan of Arc will be touring this summer. The tour includes a return to the NYC-area for shows on August 9 at Rough Trade and August 10 at Asbury Lanes. Tickets for those shows go on sale Friday (4/27) at noon with presales starting beforehand. All dates are listed below.

UPDATE (4/26): Joan of Arc announced the full second leg of their tour and released another new song, “Punk Kid.” Listen and see all dates below.
