Joan Shelley preps Jeff Tweedy-produced LP, touring w/ Wilco, Richard Thompson

Folk singer Joan Shelley has announced a followup to 2015’s very solid Over and Even. No title or release date yet, but we know she recorded it with Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy producing and playing on it. It also features contributions from her frequent collaborator Nathan Salsburg, Jeff Tweedy’s son and bandmate Spencer, and James Elkington (who is one half of a duo with Nathan Salsburg). Stay tuned for more details.

She’s also opening some dates on Wilco’s tour, including the 3/18 and 3/19 shows on their four-night Beacon Theatre run (Jake Xerxes Fussell is opening the other two shows). 3/18 is sold out but 3/19 is still on sale.

Right after that, Joan plays the American Songbook series at NYC’s Lincoln Center. She plays 3/22 at the Stanley H. Kaplan Penthouse. Tickets for that show go on sale January 18, and it will also stream live on Lincoln Center’s Facebook.

She also does a run opening for folk legend (and fellow Jeff Tweedy collaborator) Richard Thompson, which includes two shows near NYC: Westchester’s Tarrytown Music Hall on April 14 and Port Washington’s Landmark on April 19. Those are solo acoustic shows for Richard. Port Washington is sold out, but tickets are available for the Tarrytown show.

Joan’s tour also hits the Big Ears Festival in Knoxville, TN, where she’ll play two sets: a solo set, and one as part of the The Way Forth song cycle led by Rachel Grimes. All of Joan’s dates are listed below.
