Jóhann Jóhannsson, RIP

Award-winning Icelandic composer, producer and musician Jóhann Jóhannsson has sadly passed away at the age of 48. His cause of death is currently unknown. Redbird Music Management confirms Jóhannsson’s death, saying in a statement, “it is with profound sadness that we confirm the passing of our dear friend Jóhann. We have lost one of the most talented and brilliant people who we had the privilege of knowing and working with. May his music continue to inspire us.”

Jóhannsson won a Golden Globe for his scoring on 2014’s The Theory of Everything, which was also nominated for Oscar, BAFTA and Grammy awards. He was also nominated for Oscar and BAFTA awards for 2015’s Sicario, and his other scoring credits include mother! in 2017 and Arrival in 2016. His solo albums include 2016’s Orphée, 2010’s The Miners’ Hymns, 2008’s Fordlândia, and 2006’s IBM 1401 – A User’s Manual.
