The Mountain Goats released the Dungeons & Dragons-inspired In League With Dragons last year, and the ever-prolific John Darnielle is already at work on new music. Like many musicians have been doing with the cancellation or postponement of so many upcoming tours, shows, and festivals, he did a livestream on Facebook, performing a new song called “For the Snakes.”

“Working on a thing,” he wrote, “as you might have gathered, more news very soon. This is the live take and the song is called ‘For the Snakes,’ enjoy.”

John also shared a few other videos of himself finding the optimal recording position on a Panasonic boom box. Watch those, along with the “For the Snakes” performance, below.
