John Fogerty adds Bethel Woods Woodstock anniversary show

Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, located on the site of the original 1969 Woodstock festival, scaled back its plans to hold its own 3-day Woodstock 50th anniversary festival, which Live Nation and brand communications agency INVNT were set to produce, and would’ve been in direct competition with the Michael Lang-helmed Woodstock 50 at Watkins Glen. The venue is instead holding three separate shows on anniversary weekend, August 16-18, and the Sunday programming has finally been announced. John Fogerty, plus “special guests to be announced,” has added the August 18 date to his “My 50 Year Trip” tour, which also stops at Radio City Music Hall on August 15 (tickets). Ticket on-sale date is TBA.

Like Santana, who is doing both a Bethel Woods show on Saturday (tickets) and performing at Woodstock 50 on Friday, John is set to perform at Woodstock 50 on Friday as well as his Bethel show. The third Bethel Woods Woodstock weekend show is with Ringo Starr and his All-Starr Band on Friday (tickets).

Speaking of Bethel Woods and its formerly competing festival, Michael Lang discussed his response to it in an interview with Bloomberg who write, “Lang blamed Live Nation for presenting the Bethel Woods show as a rival event, and says he sent organizers a cease-and-desist letter. Bethel Woods did not respond to a request for comment.”
