John Prine closed out Newport Folk Fest with Roger Waters & more (watch)

The 2017 edition of Newport Folk Festival wrapped up earlier this evening (7/30) at Fort Adams Park in Newport, RI. As a grand finale, John Prine brought out some special guests for his headlining set, like Justin Vernon (on “Bruised Orange”), Jim James (on “All the Best”), Lucius, Nathaniel Rateliff (on “Sam Stone”), Margo Price (on “In Spite of Ourselves”), and Roger Waters (on “Hello in There”). The festival closed out with a big group singalong of “Paradise.” Check out pictures and video clips from Prine’s guest-filled set below.

This isn’t the first time Roger Waters covered John Prine at Newport Folk Festival; Waters was a surprise headliner in 2015, and his set, which saw him backed by My Morning Jacket and Lucius, among others, included a cover of “Hello in There.” Waters’ “Us+Them” tour is underway, although the September Nassau Colisum shows are the subject of controversy as local officials try to have them cancelled over Waters’ stance on Israel.

Justin Vernon recently covered John Prine at Eaux Claires. Vernon’s weekend at Newport also included a collaborative Bill Withers covers set with members of Hiss Golden Messenger, Natalie Prass, and others.

Stay tuned for more from Sunday at Newport, and catch up on the weekend with pictures from Friday HERE, more on Fleet Foxes’ set HERE, and pictures from Saturday HERE.
