Jon Batiste is Stephen Colbert’s ‘Late Show’ Bandleader, has NYC residency in June, playing MoMA nights in July

With Letterman having retired a couple weeks back, Stephen Colbert is now in full preparedness mode to take over The Late Show on CBS starting September 8. His musical accompaniment will come courtesy New Orleans musician Jon Batiste. This won’t be Batiste’s first experience with television — he had a recurring role on HBO’s Treme. Said Colbert (while stuffing himself with beignets) in a video introducing Batiste, “I like this guy.” You can watch that, and a couple other Colbert videos promoting his new gig, below.

Batiste, meanwhile, will be in NYC later this month with his band Stay Human for a week-long residency at The NoMad Hotel (June 23-29). Each day will offer a different “experience” in one of the hotel’s many spaces. Tickets are on sale and details about the different shows are below.

Batiste & Stay Human will be back in NYC in July for MoMA Nights. All upcoming dates are listed below.

Wednesday, June 24th: NoMad Bar
Social Music Experience

Imagine a night of dancers swingin’ thru the place, while guests can enjoy some black truffle popcorn and craft cocktails. Saturday, June 27th: Rooftop
Ultimate Social Music Dance Party on the Roof
Description: If the beat of New Orleans, Africa, India, Brazil and Cuba came together, what kind of groove would they create? Come find out at this otherworldly celebration on the roof of the beautiful NoMad Hotel. With the skyline of Manhattan as the backdrop, expect a full-fledged Social Music celebration, a collaboration with professional dancers, and a groove that goes on until the wee hours of the night. Entrance will be denied to those unwilling to get down.

Sunday, June 28th: Rooftop
Sunday Brunch with Jon Batiste
Description: The perfect combination of Bloody Mary’s, dancing, and socializing! An indoor/outdoor Sunday brunch with new friends, great food and the one and only Jon Batiste. He & Stay Human will be joined by a vocal quartet and bluegrass string section to give you that warm and fuzzy feeling a down home Sunday brunch oughta provide. Monday, June 29th: Eleven Madison Park
LOVE RIOT!
A night beyond explanation that you’ll be sure to remember forever. Hosted by the highly coveted three-star Michelin restaurant, Eleven Madison Park–you’ll find celebrity guest artists and lots of other surprises in store for the final event of the Social Music Residency. Exquisite cocktails, the best music in New York City and the who’s who in attendance will make this the place to be. We can’t tell you too much, or else it wouldn’t be a surprise, would it?
