They opened the show with “Afterglow,” González singing, “All of this will be gone someday,” as his voice and guitar reverberated through the crowd, creating perfect harmony with the rest of his band and the room itself. There was something special in the resonances there, the way the vocals filled the space and the guitars hummed, matching some natural frequency of the moment. Music Hall became a church of sorts and the crowd was completely entranced. “Stories We Build, Stories We Tell” was like a swaying pocket watch, guitars and bongos and finger snaps looped over and over until the audience was hypnotized. For the rest of the set, the energy among González, the band and the audience was palpable: few words were spoken, but the ideas and the shared moments were perfectly conveyed. At moments the power of the music’s vibrations and the space was awe-inspiring, and a hushed amazement bubbled across the crowd, but everyone seemed worried about breaking the spell and the murmurs quickly dissipated. – [The House List]

Jose Gonzalez is wrapping up his current tour with Ólöf Arnalds in California this week. Jose hit NYC twice earlier this month (the review above is from his Music Hall of Williamsburg date) and stopped in Chicago for two shows while on this run supporting Vestiges & Claws. We’ve got pictures from their sold-out April 15 show at Chicago’s Lincoln Hall in this post.

Tonight (4/29)’s LA show will stream live as part of the launch of Radio Echo on TuneIn.

In other news, Jose also stars in Calexico’s new video for “Falling From The Sky” off the band’s recently-released eighth album Edge of the Sun,. In it, he cares for a anthropomorphic worm straight out on David Cronenberg or Matthew Barney’s dreams. Watch it below. Jose doesn’t feature on the song or the album but, but the LP does boast a lot of other similarly minded artists including Neko Case, Iron & Wine main man Sam Beam, and Band of Horses frontman Ben Bridwell who sings on “Falling from the Sky.” Calexico will be in NYC for two shows at Bowery Ballroom on June 7 & 8 during their upcoming tour. Tickets for both Bowery shows are still available.

More pictures from the Jose’s Chicago show, a video of him covering Kylie Minogue at his Webster Hall show, the Calexico video. and setlists from both of Jose’s Lincoln Hall and Webster Hall shows, below…
