Singer-songwriter Josh Ritter has announced the release of his ninth studio album, Gathering which will be out September 22 on Pytheas Recordings/Thirty Tigers. (Preorder.) Ritter described the writing process as invigorating:

“I began with an exciting sense of dissatisfaction, and what emerged, as I began to find my voice, was a record full of storms. I still can’t tell what era these stories are from. They feel part roustabout, part psalm to me.”

This will be his first record since 2015’s great Sermon on the Rocks, and the new album features The Grateful Dead’s Bob Weir on one song. You can listen to the first single taken from the album, “Showboat,” and check out the album’s artwork and tracklist, below.

Ritter has announced a slew of tour dates in support of the new album, including a show at Brooklyn Steel on October 29 with Good Old War. Tickets for that show are currently on AmEx presale now and go on sale to the general public on Friday, July 21 at noon. All tickets for the Brooklyn Steel show come with a digital download of the new album (delivered on 9/22).
